Derrick Simerly is a writer and college English instructor living in Jasper, Alabama. He has taught Freshman writing at the University of North Alabama, Technical English at J.F. Ingram State Technical College, and now teaches English at Calhoun Community College. His award-winning fiction has appeared in Wingspan and Kinsman Quarterly. Derrick was also the 2025 winner of the Association of College English Teachers of Alabama’s William J. Calvert award. He is an enrolled citizen of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation of Oklahoma.
